Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma in English Literature. In 1967 Mitchell began her career as a reporter with KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV situated in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was made general reporter by NBC News a year later. In 1981 began reporting on the White House and became chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She became the chief White House reporter in 1992 and was also the Chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell appeared as both a host and panelist in the TV news program Meet the Press. She joined the panel in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the prestigious Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government as well as in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell worked in news from the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the time of Ronald Reagan's two term as president. She covered many notable stories including arms control, tax reforms to the budget and also the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went on various summits while in the company of the President Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev.
